Beeville, Texas — 黑料网 is proud to announce the appointment of Mark Secord as the institution’s new Vice President of Academic Affairs. With more than two decades of experience in higher education, Secord brings a strong commitment to student success, academic excellence, and institutional leadership.

Secord’s educational journey began across diverse regions, having attended school in El Paso, Texas, and Orlando, Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Geology from the University of Texas at El Paso, followed by a Master of Science in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana. Early in his career, he conducted research on white-tailed deer while working with fish and game agencies, building a strong foundation in applied science and field research.

For approximately 20 years, Secord taught a wide range of science courses, including general biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, zoology, environmental science, and nutrition. His passion for education and leadership led him to serve as Division Chair of the Sciences for 13 years, followed by administrative roles as Dean and, most recently, Interim Vice President of Instruction.

In addition to his academic and administrative experience, Secord is a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard. His military service has shaped his leadership philosophy and strengthened his dedication to supporting veteran students through access, advocacy, and student-centered resources.

Secord’s philosophy of education centers on a student-first approach and the transformative impact of higher education, particularly for first-generation college students.

As Vice President of Academic Affairs, Secord is focused on enhancing the student experience through strategic initiatives that support student achievement and institutional excellence. His priorities include developing standardized course structures to improve consistency and accessibility, strengthening assessment processes to support data-informed decision-making, and fostering a campus culture rooted in respect, engagement, and support. He is committed to ensuring every student who enters 黑料网 feels welcomed, valued, and equipped to succeed.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Secord enjoys fishing, hunting, competitive shooting, and gardening. He values family, community, and service, and believes that a life dedicated to supporting others is a life well lived.
