Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
Entrance Exam for Nursing Programs

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a multiple-choice assessment designed to measure academic preparedness in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. The TEAS exam is widely used by nursing and allied health programs to evaluate the entry-level skills and abilities of program applicants.

The exam helps predict student success in nursing programs while also identifying academic strengths and areas needing improvement before beginning coursework.

TEAS Exam Information

The TEAS exam includes questions in the following areas:

  • Reading – reading comprehension, inferences, and conclusions
  • Mathematics – numbers, algebra, measurement, and data interpretation
  • Science – anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, and scientific reasoning
  • English and Language Usage – grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary

The exam is approximately 3.5 hours long.

TEAS scores must be taken within one year of the nursing program start date for which the student is applying.
