Vocational Nursing (VN) Program Information

Program Overview

The 黑料网 Vocational Nursing (VN) Program is a comprehensive 12-month, three-semester certificate program designed to prepare students for entry-level vocational nursing practice. The program prepares graduates to provide safe, competent, and evidence-based nursing care in a variety of healthcare settings.

The VN program begins each summer and combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, simulation, and supervised clinical experiences to develop the knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, and professional behaviors necessary for nursing practice.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

The 黑料网 Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Vision 

In accordance with the Vision of 黑料网 (CBC), the Nursing Program aspires to prepare graduate nurses who deliver safe, competent, and compassionate care and who contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of the Coastal Bend region and beyond. 

Mission 

The mission of the Vocational Nursing program at 黑料网 is to prepare graduates for entry-level vocational nursing practice as licensed vocational nurses who provide safe, competent, and evidence-based care. The program is designed to meet the healthcare needs of the communities it serves by educating nurses who demonstrate sound clinical judgment, ethical and legal practice, effective communication, and collaboration within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

The nursing faculty believe that nursing is a dynamic profession grounded in caring, clinical judgment, ethical practice, and evidence-based decision-making. Nursing education is a collaborative process that builds upon prior knowledge and experience, promotes lifelong learning, and prepares graduates to practice safely within diverse healthcare environments.

Instruction emphasizes clinical judgment, patient safety, professionalism, and collaboration within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Program Length: 12 months (3 semesters)
  • Cohort Start: Summer semester
  • Typical Class Schedule: Monday–Thursday, approximately 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Clinical schedules may vary depending on clinical site availability

Requirements for application and admission include:

  • Satisfactory score on the TEAS entrance exam
  • Completion of prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better
  • Cleared Texas Board of Nursing criminal background check
  • Completion of required immunizations
  • Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Selection into the program through a competitive point-based admission process

The selection process is competitive and scoring is based on:

  • Prerequisite course grades
  • TEAS exam score
  • Healthcare certifications obtained at CBC
  • Healthcare related employment experience
  • Previous degrees
  • Military service

Application Process

  1. Apply for admission to 黑料网 here.
  2. Complete prerequisite coursework
  3. Schedule and complete the TEAS entrance exam at a CBC testing site
  4. Submit the online Vocational Nursing Program application and upload required documentation
  5. Submit official college transcripts to the Admissions Office
  6. Await notification regarding admission status through CBC Cougar Mail
  7. Accepted students must complete mandatory orientation and Nursing Readiness Camp

Students participate in supervised clinical experiences in a variety of healthcare settings including:

  • Hospitals
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Rehabilitation centers
  • Community healthcare settings

Clinical education allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real patient care situations while developing technical skills, communication, professionalism, and clinical judgment.

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) may pursue employment in:

  • Hospitals
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Rehabilitation centers
  • Clinics and physician offices
  • Home health agencies
  • Hospice and palliative care
  • Correctional healthcare
  • Occupational health settings
  • School health settings

Healthcare remains one of the fastest-growing employment sectors in Texas, with continued demand for licensed nurses across multiple care settings.

Graduates may continue their education to become Registered Nurses (RNs) and pursue advanced nursing opportunities.

 

Estimated program costs include tuition, fees, uniforms, books, clinical supplies, equipment, testing fees, background checks, drug screenings, and other required expenses.

Estimated total program costs:

  • In-District Students: approximately $12,148
  • Out-of-District Students: approximately $15,310
  • Out-of-State Students: approximately $16,075

Students may qualify for financial assistance through the 黑料网 Financial Aid Office.
